Abstract

This research project aims to conduct a comparative analysis of two prominent paradigms within artificial intelligence: Symbolic AI (also known as classical AI or GOFAI - Good Old-Fashioned AI) and Connectionist AI (also known as neural network-based AI). Both approaches have played significant roles in the development of AI systems, but they differ in their underlying principles, methodologies, and applications. By comparing and contrasting these two approaches, this study seeks to provide insights into their strengths, weaknesses, and suitability for different types of AI tasks.
