Abstract

Energy is one of the most important sectors of economic development. State support schemes are a prerequisite for successful development of the energy sector. As state support schemes vary in their use and mechanisms of action, the work analyzes support schemes used in Latvia according to their main results, as well as gives analysis of the economic theory approach to the state support schemes and their usefulness. The paper summarizes support schemes in certain European countries, as well as electricity tariffs in the European capitals. In her work, the author has made conclusions about the problems in public support schemes, both theoretical and practical, and developed proposals for the improvement of state support schemes.
